11 hair care tips
11 hair care tips
Obviously we all have different kinds of hair. I have naturally wavy hair, but the waves are so small I usually brush it after a shower, let it air dry, and it will appear mostly straight. Here are 11 things I have been doing in my hair care routine recently:
Not using any heat
I have used heat on my hair this year less times than I can count on my fingers. Really been trying to avoid the heat, and I would say it’s helping my hair’s overall appearance. Sock curls and heatless curls are a lifesaver.
Castor oil
The night before I wash my hair (I wash it in the morning) I will put castor oil through it. Castor oil is great for helping hair grow—I have definitely noticed mine growing faster since starting this. Plus, any kind of oil is going to do wonders for your hair.
Rosemary oil
Rolling my eyes at this TikTok trend lol but rosemary oil is great for your scalp health. Again, I’ll put it in the night before I wash my hair.
End care
Put everything on your ends. Bond repair, leave-in, oil at the right time. Ideally, put something on your hair’s ends morning and night.
Trims
I just trim mine at every hair color appointment.
Silk pillowcases
Good for your hair and skin!
Washing frequency
I currently wash my hair every 4 days (I will let 3 full days pass between washes).
Products
If you have color-treated hair, make sure you use a shampoo and conditioner that is safe for it. I like to save money but still use the best products so for me Love Beauty and Planet has the best shampoo and conditioner for color treated hair, plus it smells great.
Let you hair naturally dry
If possible, let your hair air dry as much as it can. It’s going to be so much better for it.
Avoid hair when it’s wet
Wet hair is the most fragile hair. Be super careful with your hair when it’s wet. As for a beachgoer like me, this is a tricky one, but bringing a leave-in to put through it while brushing it out helps.
Bond Repair Product
I love Aussie Hair Repairer with Aloe Vera as a hair serum/bond repair. It’s the best product you can find at the cheapest price. And an excuse to go on a target run ;)
11 tips for holistic health
11 tips for holistic health
Sorry but the healthcare system in America isn’t it. From the way it’s all a big booming business in selling pharmaceuticals to the way doctors are barely given any nutrition training in medical school. It’s up to each of us as individuals to take charge of our own health and listen to our own opinions first and foremost. From all the holistic health content I’ve consumed I’ve learned nutrition is one of the most powerful healing tools, and it goes a much longer way than slapping a bandaid on our problems with the use of pharmaceuticals. Remember—you are the expert of your own body. Here are 11 tips for holistic health I’ve learned in my journey so far. Disclaimer that I am not a doctor—just a human sharing what has worked for her.
Sleep is the best medicine. Pure sleep, without any medication to aid in doing so. Women need more sleep than men. For women, try to get in bed 9 hours before your wakeup time.
You can heal almost anything through good nutrition. I tend to avoid antibiotics and doctor prescribed medications like the plague. If ill I just focus on eating fruits/vegetables, tea, and protein. Supplementation is also key. Just start listening to the Dr. Hyman Show or Huberman lab and you will learn a lot about what kinds of supplements you can take.
The Dr. Mark Hyman show is a great podcast for learning about the power of nutrition in healing our bodies.
If you are sick do your best to tough it out without medication—our bodies have what it takes to heal naturally. In fact, sometimes medication (such as DayQuil and NyQuil) can suppress our immune system and worsen our illness.
Avoid hand sanitizer—it kills good bacteria and can almost make things too sterile to where your body will have trouble fighting certain illnesses. It’s good to expose yourself to some germs to build up imunity.
Papayas are really good for you. So is grapefruit in the morning.
Walking daily is amazing for you. Walking mobilizes our joints and can be a great loosening exercise. Such a feel good form of movement.
Walk for 10 minutes after each meal. I used to have a lot of digestive problems and now I don’t :) It felt impossible to get here, but I made it. Walking for 10 minutes after each meal not only feels great but it can prevent unhealthy glucose spikes and aid in the digestion process.
In general, avoid medication like the plague. There is almost always a better way. I don’t even take ibuprofen for my period cramps. Pain is your body’s way of sending a message, so suppressing it feels almost worrying to me. I like to know what’s going on within my body.
Get a blood pressure monitor and take readings weekly or daily. This is a health metric that can motivate you.
Amazon has many cheap alternatives to Oura rings. I just got one for $45. Comes with an app and everything. Good for my health and good for my wallet. Financial health is an important component of overall health.
11 ways to think positive
11 ways to think positive
Positive thinking is probably the best medicine for our minds. A positive mindset can heal us and change our experience in the world. I am always working on trying to think more positively, so here are some ideas for you.
Don’t be a victim. Asking things like “why does this always happen to me?” is going to get you nowhere. It’s just the facts.
Embrace a growth mindset—learn from your mistakes.
Sometimes when things don’t go your way it’s a sign from the universe. You can say things like, “Thank you Universe, for offering me clarity.”
When you first wake up mentally say to yourself 3 things you are grateful for. Repeat this procedure in the evening.
Know that everything is working out exactly as it’s meant to be.
Good things come to those who wait. If something is taking longer than you want it to, it’s going to be more than worth it I promise. Those who wait reap more benefits than those who get things they want in the short term.
Enjoy the journey. We all are on some kind of journey, from health/fitness to becoming the best version of ourselves. The little moments and tracking progress in the journey can be the most delightful thing. Even if you aren’t where you want to be yet, you can enjoy the process of getting there.
Tell yourself it’s going to be a good day. This one can be hard for me, but it’s something I’m trying to get better at (I can be superstitious).
Implementing a journaling routine daily will dramatically change the state of your mind.
Know that a positive mindset brings positive things. Focus on the good.
Look at positive thinking quotes. Pinterest is a great source. Some of my favorites are:
-You can’t beat somebody who never gives up
-Nothing’s impossible. Impossible says “I’m possible.”
11 ways to make today a good day
11 ways to make today a good day
Even if your day didn’t get off to the best start, you still have any moment to turn it around. For example, I was sick yesterday, so I didn’t get to clean my room and do my Sunday reset like I wanted. Because I was ill today I went straight to work Monday morning without being physically able to do my morning workout beforehand. But I know I can still have a good day despite this. Here are some of the ways you can turn your day around (or just have a great day if it started off good):
Journal tonight.
Before you read or watch Netflix do some cozy journaling in bed.
Go on a walk.
I love my post-work walks. Or a post-dinner digestion walk to enjoy the evening.
Make yourself look presentable.
Even if the first part of the day had you looking rough, you can still control your appearance. I love to carry makeup in my work bag because you never know when it might come in handy. Put on a little bit of makeup and do your skincare, you’ll feel so much better.
Stay hydrated.
Drink plenty of water to keep yourself feeling your best.
Take pride in yourself for showing up.
For instance, today, even though I wasn’t feeling well I still showed up to work. (Why we take pride in showing up to a 9-5 job in our one lifetime is another problem in itself, but I’m doing what I need to do to make an income and support myself). I’m proud of myself for still showing up. We often don’t give ourselves enough kudos, we need to work on that. If you showed up to your morning workout, give yourself some credit!
Watch an inspirational YouTuber.
Sometimes all we need for a kick of motivation is consuming content of a lifestyle vlogger who inspires us. If you’ve never watched YouTube, you’re missing out. There are so many incredible content creators on there. One of my favorites is Danielle Carolan—I love watching her New York City vlogs.
Read.
I like to read before bed—it’s a routine. But reading in general can open up so many doors and truly is the best medicine. Make some time to read today :)
Go to bed early.
Set a boundary with yourself to be in bed by a certain time no matter what. Because it is good for you.
Cook from home.
There’s something so enjoyable about taking time to make a meal for yourself. Especially if you’re a single gal in your 20s like me. I’m soaking up this time because it’s the best time ever.
Leave work at work.
Once you’re done work for the day, no more thinking about it. Once you’re done with work is when your life begins, and you get to do what you want with your time!
Don’t ruminate.
It can be so easy to ruminate about things from the day from bad bosses to bad coworkers. Don’t pollute your mind with this jibberish, focus on the positive.

11 journal prompts to transform your life
11 journal prompts that are better than therapy
Journaling keeps me mentally healthy. It is honestly free therapy, and in my opinion can sometimes be better than therapy because you really get to listen to yourself. The more you practice this, the better you will become. I love to read my journal entries immediately after I write them because it gives me further mental clarity.
Here are the prompts to change your life:
5 things I am grateful for
Intention for the day
What do I want to be for myself and others
Affirmations
Things I am proud of today
Things I love about myself today
What did I learn today?
How did I feel today?
What was holding me back today?
I forgive myself for?
What made you start doubting yourself as a kid?
I recommend doing 1 a day for the next 11 days. Purchase yourself a cute girly journal from Amazon and go forth.
